It's hard to get excited about your birthday when you share it with George Custer and Martin Van Buren.
Custer was, I enjoy saying often, last in his class at West Point. Normally, that would mean you'd end up in some obscure place. However, it was 1861, just after the Civil War started.
I like to think our birthdays link us in this manner: we're not the best, but maybe we're lucky.
Of course, Custer was ambused at Little Big Horn and found shot to death by guns Native Americans picked up while killing the rest of his soldiers, but whatever.
Hopefully December 5th isn't just for losers. We have Walt Disney, too.
